清華大學原子科學技術發展中心接受衛生署委託，六年來研究中藥的輻射滅菌，實驗過程中發現市售中藥材成分被含菌大量耗損，國內亟需建立中藥檢測和管制的規範。

主持這項研究的清大原科中心同位素組教授周鳳英表示，這項研究證實輻射可有效滅菌，且不會殘留輻射、改變藥品成分，已向衛生署中醫藥委員會提出具體結論，供作訂定法規的基礎。

不過她指出，六年來採樣發現，購自部分醫院中醫部藥房、中藥房及市售的枸杞、人參、酸棗仁、當歸、甘草、冬蟲夏草、金銀花、黨參、杏仁、川芎、珍珠粉等卅八種中藥材，以及六味地黃丸、加味消遙散、辛夷散、補中益氣湯、歸脾湯等科學中藥方劑，經實驗室培養
